she/her/hers
I became a therapist because I love building relationships with people, learning about your inner world, and helping you see and create change in your life. I know everyone has strengths and skills they bring to their healing journey, and I love creating a space with people to reflect, be curious, and challenge patterns that are no longer working for you. In our demanding, scarcity-driven world, slowing down and taking time to take care of yourself can be a subversive, transformative act.
I know that our identities and unique experiences impact our relationship and access to mental health care, and it is my goal to create a space with you that feels like you have safety and autonomy. Some of my identities that shape the work I do are: being a biracial Chinese-English immigrant, feminist, abolitionist, and parent. Some of the therapeutic practices that I might bring to a session are narrative therapy, body awareness/mindfulness, and “parts”/IFS work. Two values that I always prioritize are developing a relationship with you, and acknowledging that we are shaped by, participate in, can benefit from, and be harmed by social systems.
I am a graduate of UIC's Jane Addams School of Social Work. I earned a BA and MA in International Development and Social Change from Clark University in Massachusetts, which is where I brought together my passion for social justice and my love for working with people. I am a graduate of Room To Breathe's psychologically sensitive yoga teacher training and am trained in perinatal mental health through Postpartum Support International. Aside from being a social worker, I have worked with first generation college students; families experiencing homelessness; and on incarceration and reproductive justice issues.
I know that it takes courage and persistence to reach out for support, and I’m always honored when I get to be a part of someone’s journey. You can learn more about me on Instagram @_therapywithhannah, and you can also find me teaching a weekly class online with Room To Breathe, and supporting the practice’s community engagement efforts. After a long tenure in Chicago I now live in Massachusetts and provide virtual therapy to folks in IL, MN, and WI.
