***Please reach out about availability***
Every Friday from 4:00-5:15 CST via Zoom
*** We ask for at least a 6-session commitment, with the option to continue longer.
60 min group support and conversation; 15 min guided somatic mindfulness
"Spoonie" is a community identity term many chronically ill folx use to describe themselves. In her blog post "The Spoon Theory," Christine Miserandino introduced the term "spoons" as a metaphor for the varying energy levels and functioning that chronically ill folx have each day, and how much is used up doing everyday tasks like bathing, cleaning, and commuting to work.
This is a safe and affirming community for spoonies to find mutual support. Here, we come together to share our lived experiences navigating the challenges of chronic health conditions and ableist social structures that impact our mental and emotional well-being. We work together to cultivate mindfulness and self-compassion skills that can support us in coping and managing challenges more effectively.
Some insurance plans accepted; out of pocket cost per session is $40, and limited sliding scale spots are also available. Open to anyone residing in IL.
If you are interested in joining the group and would like to learn more, please reach out to Niki Colon, LSW at niki@roomtobreathechicago.com for further information on registration and next steps.

Caring for Caregivers of Parents {ONLINE}
Biweekly via Zoom, Mondays, 8-9am CST
Welcoming new members in February 2025, reach out to join our waitlist!
This group is a supportive space to process the impact of caregiving for a parent. Caregiving can be mentally, emotionally, and physically challenging, and requires labor and mental load that is often undervalued. For the many adults providing care to a parent, either in person or long distance, existing relationship dynamics can get even more complicated.
In this space we reflect on themes and challenges; offer and receive support; and take time to offer ourselves compassion. Each session offers facilitated conversation and 10-15 minutes of gentle, accessible yoga or mindfulness practice. Topics often include boundaries, decision fatigue, the role of the "sandwich generation," and processing complicated family dynamics.
This current group is open to anyone living in IL or MN who is navigating a parent or parental figure's chronic or terminal illness, physical and/or mental. This group is an ongoing group that asks for an initial 8 session commitment, with the opportunity to continue longer.
Some private insurance plans are accepted; out of pocket cost per session is $35, and limited sliding scale spots are available.
Reach out to Hannah Lee, LCSW at Hannah@RoomToBreatheChicago.Com to learn more for further information on registration and next steps!

Queering Ambiguous Grief: A Support Space for LGBTQIA+ Community Members Navigating Loss {ONLINE}
***Now enrolling new members!***
Weekly on Thursdays from 4-5pm CST, virtual via Zoom
This is a virtual support group for queer 20 & 30 somethings experiencing ambiguous loss, a form of grief. Grief is a complex emotion that is not limited to experiences surrounding death. As queer people existing in a homophobic/transphobic society we are often confronted with many unique forms of loss. Loss of connection, loss of autonomy, loss of safety, just to name a few. The purpose of this group is to provide a safe and healing environment for individuals to process unique forms of grieving and loss specific to being a member of the LGBTQIA+ community. Our time in group will be spent reflecting on the challenges of being queer in a heteronormative society and processing how ambiguous loss may be infiltrating our queer joy. Our hope is to generate a community of solidarity and safety in navigating the complexities of loss as queer people.
Some private insurance plans are accepted; out of pocket cost per session is $35, and limited sliding scale spots are available. We ask for at least an 8 session commitment with the option to continue longer. Open to IL residents!
Please reach out to Rachel Kaffey, LPC at rkaffey@roomtobreathechicago.com for more information about registration and next steps if you think this group may be a good fit for you or others.

"But What Will People Say?": Book Discussion Group for Those Healing Between Cultures {ONLINE}
Thursdays, 3:30-4:30pm CST, April 10-June 26
I always tell clients, “We don’t come to therapy in a vacuum,” because we are shaped by our identities, communities, and the people around us. But historically, white, European psychotherapy has told people to leave their identities at the door, to focus only on the individual. And at worst, tries to silence or reject who we are. How do we prioritize our mental health and feel like “enough” amidst this disconnect? Sahaj Kaur Kohli, author of But What Will People Say: Navigating Mental Health, Identity, Love, and Family Between Cultures, speaks to those of us that want to grow in our personal healing without abandoning the cultures, communities, and families that make us who we are, while compassionately deciding which cultural or familial patterns we want to carry forward.
This group is designed for those who identify as 1st, 1.5, and 2nd generation immigrants and/or biracial/cultural. Each week we will read a chapter from But What Will People Say, and engage in discussion and reflection as a small group.
April 10: Introduction and “Our Stories Matter, Too”
April 17: “When Things Don’t Go According to Plan”
April 24: “But What Will People Say?”
May 1: “What’s Faith Got To Do With It?”
May 8: “Feeling My Way Through”
May 15: “Where Do My Parents End and I Begin?”
May 22: “Investing in Community Care and Self-Care”
May 29: “When You’re The Only One”
June 5: “Love or Loyalty”
June 12: “Getting Out of My Own Way”
June 19 (Juneteenth): “Exploring My Bicultural Identity Development”
June 26: Uncovering My Family History”
This is a weekly, 12 week group, for people living in IL, MN, and WI. It will be a group for those who commit to 10+ sessions, and not a drop in space. Most private insurance plans are accepted; out of pocket cost per session is $35; and limited sliding scale spots are available. Before beginning the group, we ask that you participate in an individual intake session.
