Be Here Be Queer: A Support Space for LGBTQIA+ Community Members Navigating the Current State of our World {ONLINE}

  • Room to Breathe Psychotherapy & Yoga (map)

***Now enrolling new members!***

Weekly on Thursdays from 4-5pm CST, virtual via Zoom

This is a virtual support group for queer 20 & 30 somethings navigating our current sociopolitical climate and the potential grief that comes from watching bigotry and ignorance play out in real time. Grief is a complex emotion that is not limited to experiences surrounding death. As queer people existing in a homophobic/transphobic society we are often confronted with many unique forms of loss such as loss of connection, loss of autonomy, and loss of safety, just to name a few. The purpose of this group is to provide a safe and healing environment for individuals to process unique forms of grieving and loss specific to existing as LGBTQIA+ individuals in our current context. Our time in group will be spent reflecting on the challenges of being queer in this particular moment and processing how ambiguous loss may be infiltrating our queer joy. Our hope is to generate a community of solidarity and safety in navigating the complexities of how it feels to be queer in this version of American society.

Some private insurance plans are accepted; out of pocket cost per session is $35, and limited sliding scale spots are available. We ask for at least an 8 session commitment with the option to continue longer. Open to IL residents!

Please reach out to Rachel Kaffey, LPC at rkaffey@roomtobreathechicago.com for more information about registration and next steps if you think this group may be a good fit for you or others.
